WebCT: Sending and Receiving E-Mail

In this tutorial we will explain how to send and receive e-mail through WebCT.

Part I: Logging into WebCT and getting E-Mail.

1. Log in your WebCT and select course.
Note: If you are not sure on how to do this, look at our Log On tutorial


2 . Click on Mail.


Part II : Sending E-Mail.

1. Select Compose message to compose a new message to send.

 

2. Enter the e-mail address of all recipients for this e-mail and the subject of the message.

  • Multiple addresses can be manually entered by typing in the address, each must be separated by a comma.

Note: Outside addresses cannot be sent to using WebCT. If a student desires,they can setup mail forwarding to an outside address.

  • Addresses of recipients can also be entered by using the WebCT address book.
  • To use the address book simply click the button labeled Browse and select the desired recipients.

3. Using the address book

  • To select multiple recipients, hold down the CTRL key on your keyboard while selecting names.
  • Once the recipients are selected, their addresses will appear as listed in the parenthesis under the address book.
  • Enter the subject in the Subject Box of the message.

4. Enter the full text of the message that you wish to send.

  • Type the full text of your message into the Message Text Box.
  • If you wish to have a larger viewing area for your message, select the desired height in lines and click Resize.

5. If required, attach files.

  • To attach files click Browse.
  • This will open up the dialog box displayed below.

6. Select the file you wish to attach and click Open.

7. If you have selected the proper file, you may click "Attach File" to attach the file to your e-mail.

Note: This step uploads the file from your computer, this may take some time depending on the size of the file and the speed of your connection.

8. Once the file has finished uploading, its name and size will be displayed below the Attachment Box.

9. Send the message by clicking on the Send button.

Part III: Receiving E-Mail.

1. Select a folder to go to by clicking on its name.

2. Click the subject of the message you wish to read.
