WebCT: My Grades Tool II

In this tutorial we will show you how to create a grade formula to calculate the total points of all grade components.

1. Log in your WebCT and select course.
Note: If you are not sure on how to do this, look at our Log On tutorial.

2 . Click Control Panel.

3 . Under Basic Control Panel, click Manage Course.

4. Click Manage Students.

5 . The screen shows the students registered your course and their data, such as First Name, Last Name, and User ID. If you entered students’ Assignment, Quiz, Midterm Grade, or Final Grade scores before, the information shows up too.

6. To create a new column to enter grade formula, click the triangle symbol to reveal the drop-down menu. Choose Mange columns, and click Go.

7 . Under Organize, click Add column.

8 . At the Label textbox, enter Total Points as this sample. At the Type, click triangle symbol to reveal the drop down menu and select Calculated. Click Add.

9. Check the Total Points column. At Align column, click the triangle symbol to show drop down menu and select Center. Then, click Go.

10. Make sure the Total Points column is checked. At Release columns, click the triangle symbol to show drop down menu and select Yes. Click Go

11. Again, make sure the Total Points column is checked. At Show statistics, click the triangle symbol to show drop down menu and select Mean Only. Click Go.

12. Again, make sure the Total Points column is checked. At Show decimals, click the triangle symbol to show drop down menu and select 0. Click Go.

13. Click Manage Students.

14. To enter a grade formula. Under the Total Points, select Formula.

15. The screen shows a Calculation Editor. At this sample course, you have assignment, quiz, midterm, and final grades. Each category of grade will be 25% of the final course grade. Therefore, the total points are assignment * 25% + quiz * 25% + midterm * 25% + final exam * 25%.

16. To enter the Total Points formula, SUM{[Assignment] * 0.25 + [Quiz] * 0.25 + [Midterm] * 0.25 + [Final exam] * 0.25}, into the calculation editor.

First, at Function, click triangle symbol and select sum. Then, click Start List.

17. At Column, click the triangle symbol to show drop-down menu and select Assignment. Then, click Insert.

18. At the calculator, click * .25, and +.

19. Repeat Step 16 and 17 to insert Quiz, Midterm Grade and Final Grade into the Formula. The final formula should look like below.

Note. If you made a mistake at the formula entry. Click CE to erase last item your entered. Click C to erase the entire Formula.

20. After completing the formula, click End List. Then, click Update to finish.
