6.0 Basics

Open Photoshop.
2.
In Photoshop, click File on the top menu and
select Open.
3.
Locate any image file and click the Open
button.

To crop an image using the crop tool:
1. Select the crop tool (
). If the crop tool is not showing, click
on the icon in the position of the crop tool and hold the mouse button down to
display the rest of the tools, then select the crop tool.
2. Drag (click on the image and while holding the mouse button down move the cursor over the area in a diagonal path, release the mouse button) over the part of the image you want to keep. When you release the mouse button, the crop marquee appears as a bounding box with handles at the corners and sides. (To cancel the selected area, press Esc key on the keyboard.)
3. Press the Enter on the keyboard.

To change the image size
Note:
Image size is different
from the viewing magnitude of the image, you can zoom in or out without
changing the actual size of the image by pressing the Ctrl key simultaneously
with + or ¡V on you keyboard.
1. Click Image on the top menu,
select Image Size.

2. Make certain that the Constrain
Proportions is checked. This
way, if the width was changed, the height would change automatically.

3. Select Percent from the Width drop-down
box
4. Change the Percent value to your
convenience. For example 50% reduces the image by half. Don¡¦t worry about Document size or
Height.

5. Click OK.
Converting Image Formats
JPEG and GIF formats present decent quality without taking
much memory. They are unmatched
for web use. You can either save
the image in JPEG or GIF format.
To
save a file in JPEG format:
1. Choose File > Save As,
and choose JPEG from the format list. If JPEG is not available, see To save
a file in GIF format.

2. Specify a filename and location,
and click Save.

3. Click OK to confirm JPEG
options.

To
save a file in GIF format:
1. Choose File > Save As,
and choose CompuServe GIF from the format list. If CompuServe GIF is not
available, see To save a file in JPEG format.

2. Specify a filename and location,
and click Save.

3. Click OK to confirm Normal option.

1. Click Image on the top menu,
select Mode ¡V RGB color.
2. To start typing, select the Type
tool (T), and place the cursor on the image. Click to engage the text
tool and start typing.

3. The font, size, style, and color can be
chosen on the Options toolbar in a manner similar to Microsoft Word text
formatting. For example, the above
text is Arial 18pt Bold Italic.
4. The Options toolbar is located at
the top (just below the menu toolbar) and looks something like this:

Note:
If you are using an earlier version of Photoshop the options remain the
same, the look however is different.
1. Make sure that the layer palette is
showing by clicking Window from the menu bar and selecting Show
Layers (if Hide Layers is displayed, press the Esc key on the
keyboard).

2. To apply effects to the text, select the
text layer marked T.

3. Then click Layer and choose Layer
Style>Outer Glow.
Please note that Outer Glow is one of the effects, and that you
can choose others to suit your convenience.

4. Click OK to confirm the default
settings for the Layer Style.

Given the original
image, perform the specified operation to reach the shown resulting image. Download the original image: chateau.psd.
1. Change the image size.

2. Crop the image.

3. Open original.pds and save
it as original.jpeg.
4. Add the text My Picture to the
original image. Format the text at
Arial 24pts, Bold, in white color.
When done, do not close the image.

5. Add Text Effect. Add the Satin effect (Layer
Style) to the previously created text.
