Website- Publishing to Remote Server using Microsoft
FrontPage
In this tutorial, we will cover how to publish your website from the local copy (on your hard drive) to the remote server using Microsoft FrontPage
1) After you have finished making changes to the local copy of your website, click
View->Remote Website.

2) If this is the first time you have done this, you must
set up the website’s Remote Web
Site Properties.
(If this has already been done, skip to step 4). Click on Remote Web
Site Properties.

3) On this screen, verify that FrontPage or SharePoint Services is selected. In the Remote Web site location: textbox, type the address of your website. This will be either http://iws.ccccd.edu/xxxxx or http://iws2.ccccd.edu/xxxxx, where “xxxxx” is your first initial followed by your last name (this information will be received from the Web Services department). Click on OK.

4) FrontPage will now prompt you to enter your user name and password for the remote site. The user name will be your first initial and last name- the same as your Novell login. The password will be the month and year of your birthday in mmyyyy format.

5) The files on the left are the files in the local copy of your website, while the files on the right are the files on the remote server.
A few icons to notice:
I) A right arrow icon will appear next to any files which have changed on the local copy, and any files which are unmatched (Pages will be unmatched if they are new pages that you have never published to the remote site before).
II) A question mark will appear next to any files which are conflicting between the two copies. In this case, the local copy of “Conflicting.html” is not an update of the version on the remote site, but a completely new file.
Note: These situations will not likely
occur the first time you publish your site.

6) In the lower right corner of your screen, verify that the Local to remote option is selected, and click the Publish Web site button.

Note: If this is the
first time you are publishing your website, skip to step 9
7) If you get this screen, you have conflicting files. If you want the file on your local copy to overwrite the file on the remote server, click Overwrite Remote Files. If you are unsure, click Ignore and Continue to publish all other files.

8) If you get this screen, a file on the remote site does not exist on you local copy, and you must decide if you wish to remove the unmatched file. Clicking Yes will delete the unmatched file, and clicking No will leave the file on the remote server. Either option leaves your local copy unchanged.

9) If this is your first time publishing your website to the remote site, check to see if the following has happened:

There are two files titled “index” with different file extensions (one with .htm, the other .html). This can cause your web site to not function properly. Notice that on the local copy only index.htm is shown.

This means that the file you want is the .htm file, and the .html file should be deleted. To do this, right-click on index.html and select Delete.

Click Yes to confirm deleting on the dialogue box that appears.
10) To verify that the process has worked, open your browser, and go to your website and check that your changes have been made.
