Tony
played college basketball for four years at West Texas State University.
After graduating with his B.S. degrees, he began his teaching and
coaching career at Crockett Junior High in Amarillo, Texas. In 1978, two
short years after graduating, he was back at West Texas State serving as
an Assistant Basketball Coach. He later served as assistant coach at
Amarillo Junior College and Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma.
Tony’s
experience includes coaching at the NCAA Division I, Division II and NAIA
levels. He was Men’s Basketball Coach at Cedar Valley College in
Lancaster, Texas. Tony also served as the Women's volleyball coach at
Cedar Valley for one year. Under his direction the Women’s Volleyball
team finish 5th in the nation in NJCAA Division III Volleyball.
Tony
served as Assistant Athletic Director at West Texas State in 1988.
Responsible for the football program, and the Men’s and Women’s
Basketball program, he oversaw budgets, travel and games management. Tony
was also Athletic Director at Cedar Valley College where he oversaw the
building of the Athletic Program. During his tenure at Cedar Valley all
three teams, Men’s Basketball, Women’s Volleyball and Men’s Baseball were
Nationally ranked with the Baseball and Volleyball teams making numerous
appearances in the NJCAA National Tournaments.
Tony
became the Women’s Basketball Coach at Collin College in 1998. No longer
coaching, Tony continues his involvement in Fitness and Wellness
teaching full time at Collin and directing the Central Park Campus
Fitness Center.
In
addition to his coaching career, Tony has taught Biology, Earth Science
and Physical Education at the Elementary, Junior High, High School and
College levels.
In his
spare time, Tony plays the congas and bongos with the Latin band, Chilo
and High Energy, at Monica's Aca y Alla Restaurant in Deep Ellum.
