After four years of playing college basketball at West Texas State University, Tony began his teaching and coaching career at Crockett Junior High in Amarillo, Texas. In 1978, he went back to West Texas State as an Assistant Basketball Coach.
His experience includes being an assistant coach at Amarillo Junior College and Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma.
He has coached at the NCAA Division I, Division II and NAIA levels as well. His head coaching experience has been as the Men’s Basketball Coach at Cedar Valley College in Lancaster, Texas, where he also coached the Women’s Volleyball team for one season, finishing 5th in the nation in NJCAA Division III Volleyball. Tony became the Women’s Basketball Coach at Collin County in 1998. He is no longer coaching but is teaching full time at Collin as well as directing the Central Park Campus Fitness Center.
Tony was the Assistant Athletic Director at West Texas State in 1988. He primarily worked with football and Men’s and Women’s Basketball overseeing budgets, travel and games management. Tony was also Athletic Director at Cedar Valley College where he oversaw the building of the Athletic Program. During his tenure at Cedar Valley all three teams, Men’s Basketball, Women’s Volleyball and Men’s Baseball were Nationally ranked with the Baseball and Volleyball teams making numerous appearances in the NJCAA National Tournaments.
He has taught Biology, Earth Science and Physical Education at the Elementary, Junior High, High School and College levels.
Tony plays the congas and bongos for a Latin band, Chilo and High Energy, who currently play at Monica's Aca y Alla Restaurant in Deep Ellum.
