FUNCTION:                          Provide student advising (admission requirements, testing, program description, transcript evaluation, registration and financial aid) and programmatic assistance (student tracking, interviewing applicants, creating reports, compiling certification paperwork) for the teacher certification program.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Essential Job Functions:

 

1.      Provide group, individual and web-based advising for teacher certification students, including program overview and planning, assisting foreign students, transcript evaluation, testing requirements and payment options.

 

2.      Coordinate the required competency testing for TCP applicants and students including scheduling, scoring and analyzing tests, providing feedback and arranging test preparation workshops.

 

3.      Coordinate and negotiate with the personnel offices at local school districts to place TCP students in their preferred school field experiences.

 

4.      Recruit, interview, and evaluate TCP candidates to assess qualifications for acceptance to the program.

 

5.      Admit, register and establish accounts for TCP students by entering biographical/demographic information and course requests into SIS, collecting tuition payments, requesting network accounts from ACS, and setting passwords for student access to the program website.

 

6.      Maintain teacher certification database; track TCP student progress and attendance; prepare reports, advising manuals and packets; respond to TCP student questions and concerns; and conduct varied administrative duties using word processing, vax, and network system, proofreading all work to ensure accuracy.

 

7.      Update TCP web pages and department publications, as needed. 

 

8.      Develop individual plans for student program progression and assist candidates regarding program planning.

 

9.      Coordinate with Human Resources at ISDs to ensure that intern certification meets requirements of the teaching position offered.

 

 

Marginal Functions:

 

·        Provide general information about the college.  Answer phones, e-mail inquiries, and assist walk-ins in a courteous and helpful manner.

·        Perform cashiering functions for the Allen facility to include college tuition, fees and money for the sale of textbooks at the beginning of each course.

·        Provide assistance with admissions and registration of credit students during peak registration times.

·        Travel between campuses to attend meetings, workshops, seminars, etc.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

Ability to respond to customer inquiries in person and over the telephone timely and in a professional manner;

 

Ability to maintain confidentiality of student records (in compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act), organizational plans and personnel actions;

 

Ability to interact and work cooperatively with other members of the college and community;

 

Ability to contribute to the team efforts of the department;

 

Ability to learn and communicate a variety of student services offered at the Allen facility;

 

Skill in proofreading materials to ensure accuracy;

 

Knowledge of IBM Compatible PC and basic/advanced word processing software (Microsoft Office.);

 

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with constant noise or interruptions;

 

Ability to regularly lift or carry objects up to approximately twenty pounds;

 

Oral and written skills to convey ideas, facts, and information effectively and

accurately to students, staff, faculty and the general public;

 

Ability to perform assigned responsibilities, duties, and tasks according to

established practices, procedures, techniques, and standards with minimal

supervision, within the assigned time frame;

 

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships;

 

Ability to listen actively and demonstrate understanding;

 

Ability to maintain restraint and keep calm when faced with emotional or angry

individuals;

 

Ability to demonstrate safe work habits and safe use of equipment;

 

Ability to perform all the essential functions of this job;

 

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 

Education:      Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution in a related field.

 

Experience:            Two years of related experience.

                        Any equivalent combination of training and experience
