TITLE: Associate Dean of Students

FUNCTION: Manage student disciplinary issues at the Central Park Campus and Preston Ridge Campus. To provide support to departments reporting within the Dean of Students Office in the Student Development Division as needed.

MAJOR
RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Job
Functions:
1) Manage student disciplinary issues at the assigned campuses, take
appropriate action and ensure that the Dean of Students is kept current on the
status of outstanding issues.
2) Serve as a back-up to the District's Chief Discipline Officer to enforce
the student code of conduct and ensure legal rights of students are protected.
3) Work closely with the provosts of the assigned campuses and the Dean of
Students to ensure that disciplinary issues are handled in a timely, effective
manner.
4) Provide advocacy support for students and faculty members.
5) Work with Student Development and instructional colleagues to plan and
implement programs that support institutional efforts toward student success
and the academic progress program.
6) Assist the Dean of Students in short-term and long-term planning within
the division.
7) Edit and coordinate the annual Student Handbook.
8) Remain current with legal issues affecting students in higher education,
FERPA and all laws relative to student discipline and due process.
9) Serve as the college liaison between students and administration when
necessary.
Marginal Job
Functions:
Serve on Student
Development Council.
Serve on college-wide Deans' Council as a student development representative.
Remain current with the laws relative to the American with Disabilities Act.
Review and evaluate college-wide publications such as Student Handbook, catalog, and class schedules.
Compete for external funding when necessary for support of Student Development programs.
Work closely with campus security in maintaining a safe campus environment.
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills
and Abilities:
Knowledge of student development programs in higher education.
Knowledge of leadership and management techniques and skills.
Knowledge, skill, and ability in the budget development and implementation process.
Knowledge of Student Due Process, ADA compliance standards, and FERPA.
Written and oral skills necessary.
Ability to handle many tasks simultaneously.
Decision making, time management, goal setting, and planning abilities necessary.
Ability to perform all essential functions of the position.
Education and
Experience:
Education: Masters degree required in education, student personnel,
administration, or counseling.
Experience: Five years of college administration; advanced and specialized
knowledge of student personnel/services and student development education; doctoral or post master's study desired.
