FUNCTION: To assist in planning,
coordinating, and evaluating the programs and processes of all programs and
disciplines within the Engineering and Emerging Technologies Division; provide
leadership for the faculty, staff, and students in the division; and assist the
Executive Director/Dean to provide effective daily administration of the
division’s policies and programs. Teach
half to
three-quarter load depending on student enrollment.

Director/Dean, Engineering and Emerging Technologies Division
SUPERVISES: Associate
faculty within assigned disciplines and assigned support staff.
MAJOR
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential Job
Functions:
1) Assist in planning, coordinating and evaluating the
instructional programs and processes for the division to meet industry needs.
2) Participate in the selection of full-time faculty and
make hiring recommendations for associate faculty for assigned
disciplines. Assist in evaluating
faculty, evaluate associate faculty, assist in conducting faculty meetings and
workshops, order textbooks, coordinate schedule creation and entry based on
statistics, and perform other related administrative activities.
3) Make full-time and associate faculty assignments to
classes with approval by the Dean. Make
hiring recommendations and supervise lab assistants to ensure lab availability
for students.
4) Coordinate Advisory Committee ensuring that they are
properly composed, meet according to guidelines, and are actively engaged.
5) Coordinate monthly division information sessions.
6) Work with advising, registration, and the bookstore
to ensure smooth registration activities for the assigned programs in the
division.
7) Review and analyze data for the development and
improvement of programs in the assigned disciplines, including analysis of the
program evaluation results. Take
appropriate steps to implement approved recommendations within the division.
8) Assist in providing leadership in the development and
implementation of the strategic plans for assigned disciplines.
9) Assist in formulating and recommending annual budget
requests for the assigned disciplines.
Work closely with the Dean to ensure operations are conducted within the
approved budget.
10) Work closely with the Dean to develop articulation
agreements with other institutions and agencies and provide appropriate
documentation regarding acceptance/transferability of students’ credits.
11) Teach half to three-quarter load of credit and/or
continuing education courses, depending on the number of students being enrolled.
12) Work closely with other departments or divisions in
offering concurrent enrollment courses, continuing education courses, and
industry-based certificate programs.
Marginal Functions:
When the dean is
unavailable, work with coordinators of other disciplines concerning problems
with associate faculty and students.
Recommend purchase of
capital equipment necessary for the effective implementation and maintenance of
assigned educational programs within the division.
Serve on search committees
and actively participate on appropriate committees within the district.
Promote and encourage
communication between disciplines within the division and throughout the
district.
Collaborate with appropriate
personnel to plan professional development programs for full-time and associate
faculty within the assigned disciplines.
Provide an effective two-way
channel of communication between administration and faculty/staff as well as
lateral communication on behalf of the division.
Assist in the development,
review, and proofing of the college catalog, brochures and other college
publications.
In the Dean’s absence, or as
necessary, supervise staff and assist with the administrative responsibilities
for the division. Respond to letters, phone calls, and visitors that require
immediate attention from division dean.
Be available to meet with and/or address concerns of students, faculty,
and staff as the need arises.
Contribute to the marketing
of the division’s programs and services.
Plan, develop, and promote ways and means for improving instruction and
instructional services.
Participate in the
formulation of college policies and procedures, especially those that affect
the instructional area.

disciplines.

developments in related fields of specialization with the ability to keep
current with new developments.

Broad educational background and experience which
demonstrates abilities in
English and another discipline, principles of teaching, and public relations.
Ability to demonstrate consideration of others.
Ability to manage time and evaluate employee or
students' progress.
Ability to clearly and effectively present ideas in
meetings and in oral presentations.
Written skills to convey
ideas, facts, and information effectively and accurately to students, staff,
faculty and the general public.
Ability to meet deadlines for reports and
assignments.
Ability to perform all essential functions of this
job.
Education and Experience:
Education: Master's degree in Engineering or related field from
a regionally accredited institution.
Experience: Four (4) years teaching/administrative experience in
higher education or related business industry.
