TITLE: Associate Dean, Counseling
and Career Services

FUNCTION: To manage the development and
implementation of the College’s counseling program. To provide administrative
support to Counseling Services and Career Services and Cooperative Work
Experience (CS & CWE) including planning, hiring, budgeting, evaluating, organizing
and supervising personnel. To provide individual counseling services for students
and to direct personnel engaged in providing counseling for students.
REPORTS TO: Vice President, Student Development
SUPERVISES: Counselors, Director of CS & CWE, Counseling &
Career Services
Assistant, Program
Coordinator, Project Zero.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Job Functions:
9. Administer, plan, direct and evaluate special programs,
projects, and services, such as the ZERO Tolerance of Violence grant program,
the college’s compliance with Drug Free School legislation, and the Strategies
of Safe Measure (SOS) Committee, ensuring timely implementation, assessment,
tracking and reporting.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge
of counseling theories, techniques and research.
Knowledge
of demonstrated ability in individual, group, and family counseling methods.
Knowledge of interviewing
techniques and methods. Knowledge of
conflict management techniques with ability to mediate conflicts.
Knowledge of techniques for
identifying problems and determining most appropriate course of action for
their resolution with the ability to recognize the long-term implications of a
decision or event.
Knowledge of human relations
and problem solving methods.
Knowledge of legal issues
and compliance with substance abuse and HIV/AIDS educational requirements and
rights of students as related to mental health areas.
Knowledge of student
development programs in higher education
Knowledge of leadership and
management techniques
Knowledge of policy
formulation and analysis methods – how to establish practical policies to
provide effective guidance in decision-making.
Knowledge of long range
planning – techniques for determining the long-range needs of the District and
the resources required to meet those needs.
Knowledge of time management
techniques with the ability to organize, schedule, assign, delegate,
coordinate, and monitor subordinate work activities to accomplish the most
possible in the time available.
Knowledge and skill in
performance appraisal
Knowledge, skill, and
ability to develop, implement, and monitor budgets.
Skill in the development and
delivery of education programs.
Oral and written skills to
convey ideas, facts, opinions, or perceptions accurately, thoroughly, and in a
manner easily understood by students, staff, faculty, and the general public.

demonstrate understanding.
Ability to withstand
considerable pressure and follow an activity, project, or plan of action from
its inception through implementation.
Ability to establish sound

workshops/seminars.
Education and Experience:
Education: Master’s degree in Counseling or a related field from
a regionally
accredited
institution
Experience: Five (5) years of post-graduate counseling
experience. Skill in the
development and delivery of educational programs. Professional counseling skills. Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written formats. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with students, staff, and the general public in a courteous and professional manner.
