FUNCTION:                          To administratively support all departments reporting within the Associate Vice President's Office within the Student Development Division. Administrative functions include: planning, budgeting, hiring, evaluating, organizing, supervising, and serving as Chief Disciplinary Officer for the District.

 

REPORTS TO:                    Vice-President of Student Development

SUPERVISES:                     Associate Dean of Students (SCC, CPC, PRC), Director of Career Services/Co-op, Director of ACCESS, Director of Student Life and Assistant to the Dean I.

 

 

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Essential Job Functions:

 

1)Supervise and direct the planning, implementation, evaluation, and staffing of the following areas:  District Associate Deans, Career Planning, Cooperative Work Experience, Student Life and ACCESS office (Services for Students with Disabilities) including.

1)     E evaluatinge exempt and non-exempt personnel and recommend promotions, leaves, reclassification, and personnel action. Supervise the Associate Dean of Students and provide continuing training in legal issues pertaining to students in higher education.

 

 

 

2)     Oversee the development of the total Associate Vice Presidents budget which includes Associate Deans, Career Services, Cooperative Work Experience, Student Life and ACCESS Office. 

 

3)     Serve as the District's chief discipline officer and enforce the Student Code of Conduct. If a violation occurs, ensure the legal rights of the student are protected.

 

4)     Assist the Vice-President of Student Development in short and long term planning and set goals and objectives for areas of responsibility.

 

5)     Remain current with legal issues affecting students in higher education, FERPA, ADA and all laws related to student discipline.

 

5)Serve as the college liaison between students and administration when necessary.

6)     Supervise the Associate Dean of Students and provide continuing training in legal issues pertaining to students in higher education.

 

7)     Serve as chief administrator at SCC in the absence of Provost and Vice President of Student Development.

 

8)     Serve as the first point of contact (and Associate Deans) in the formal student complaint process.

 

9)      Provide leadership district wide for enforcement of the student travel policy, the Student Handbook editing process and to the SGA advisor ensuring all college policies are being followed.

 

10) Prepare reports as needed regarding disciplinary incidents and SAFAC expenditures.

 

11)   Serve as the Student Development liaison with campus police on student related incidents and serve as the college liaison between students and administration when necessary.

 

 

 

Provide leadership for the entire Student Handbook editing process.

11)Provide final approval for all Student Life activities, programs, events and registered student organizations.

11)Provide leadership to the SGA advisor ensuring all college policies are being followed.

12) Administer the training for the Discipline Appeals Task Force as needed.

 

Marginal Job Functions:

Serve on college-wide task forces.

 

Remain current with the laws relative to the American with Disabilities Act insuring that the ACCESS staff remains up-to-date with policies and procedures.

 

Review and evaluate college-wide publications such as Student Handbook, catalog, and class schedules.

 

Compete for external funding when necessary for support of Student Development programs.

 

Work closely with campus security in maintaining a safe campus environment.

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

Knowledge of student development programs in higher education.

 

Knowledge of leadership and management techniques and skills.

 

Knowledge and skill in the performance appraisal process.

 

Knowledge, skill, and ability in the budget development and implementation process.

 

Knowledge of Student Due Process, ADA compliance standards, and Employee Due Process rights.

 

Written and oral skills necessary.

 

Ability to handle many tasks simultaneously.

 

Ability to deal effectively and fairly with a variety of individuals in a courteous manner.

 

Decision making, time management, goal setting, and planning abilities necessary.

 

Ability to perform all essential functions of the position.

 

Education and Experience:

 

Education:               Masters degree required in education, student personnel,

administration, or counseling.

 

Experience:             Five years of college administration; advanced and specialized

knowledge of student personnel/services and student development required.  Doctoral or post master's study preferred.
