FUNCTION: Assist
the director in the overall operation of the bookstore.
Control of
merchandise and inventory, accountable for funds received, textbook and general
merchandise purchases and return, store promotions, and supervision of
bookstore accounting clerks full and part-time. Spring Creek Manager is responsible for textbook purchases for
the District. Buy-back of textbooks at
assigned campus.

MAJOR
RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential
Job Functions:
1)
Coordinate textbook
orders and buy-back for the District if assigned to Spring Creek. Supervise the shipping/receiving area; if
assigned to SCC supervise the Accounting Clerk, Shipping and Receiving.
2)
Supervise the overall
operation of the assigned bookstore to include but not limited to general
accounting and clerical functions, stock control of textbooks and supplies;
determining quantities to be ordered based on records, stock on hand,
anticipated enrollment and buy-back.
3)
Serve as liaison
between the campus bookstore and the District Business Office to facilitate
vendor payments. Discuss with
appropriate vendors items such as sales, shipping damages and losses, billing
errors and textbook or supply availability.
Review and verify purchase orders, invoices and transfers.
4)
Maintain an
aggressive used-book program.
5)
Supervise or assist
customers on sales floor.
6)
Maintain a neat, clean, and organized
bookstore.
7)
Interview, train,
supervise, and develop a culturally diverse staff. Ensure the assigned bookstore is adequately staffed to provide
professional services by planning, implementing, and modifying work schedules.
8)
Coordinate and
supervise the textbook area and designate placement of textbooks of the
assigned campus.
9)
Coordinate, supervise
and/or perform physical inventory; ensuring the data is accurate and recorded
within time frame.
10) Ensure that offices and files are adequately secured on a
daily basis.
Marginal
Job Functions:
Review temporary help time cards weekly to ensure hours
recorded are accurate.
Review full-time timesheets monthly.
Attend meetings, seminars, workshops, etc.
Assist with Graduation Regalia.
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge,
Skills and Abilities:
Must have ability to work irregular hours to include at least one night each week;
overtime during registration, first three weeks of class, during inventory and
buy-back of textbooks.
Ability to perform essential job functions according to
established practices, procedures, techniques, and standards under time
pressure and deadlines, with minimal supervision maintaining professionalism
with customers and cooperation with coworkers.
Knowledge of college store industry gained through
experience.
Skills to supervise the general accounting and clerical
functions and a staff of a bookstore.
Knowledge of cashiering and general bookkeeping/accounting
principles and procedures.
Ability to prepare and/or reconcile general ledger on a
monthly basis.
Ability to operate a variety of machines and equipment
including 10 key, point of sales electronic cash register, credit card machine,
typewriter, photocopier, barcode machine, facsimile, pallet jack, telephone and
PC.
Knowledge of retail accounting, pricing methods and
computations.
Skill to effectively negotiate one-on-one or between
multiple parties.
Interpersonal skills for effective interaction with various
levels within the college and the general public.
Knowledge of problem-solving techniques for identifying
problems, researching and determining the most appropriate course of action for
their resolution.
Knowledge of effective customer service techniques.
Knowledge of business English, spelling punctuation, and
effective letter writing practices.
Knowledge of microcomputers and basic word processing,
software and data manipulation (spreadsheet) applications.
Skill in proofreading materials to ensure accuracy.
Ability to listen actively and demonstrate understanding.
Ability to provide feedback, support and encouragement to
staff.
Ability to make independent judgments.
Ability to work with constant/extreme noise or
interruptions.
Ability to maintain restraint and keep calm when faced with
emotional or angry individuals.
Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.
Ability to squat, stoop, bend, or crawl while performing the
inventory and receiving job responsibilities.
Ability to regularly lift, push, pull or carry objects up to
approximately 40 pounds.
Ability to work around fume/odor and dust/mites due to
unpacking or cleaning books.
Ability to record inventory and maintain accurate records.
Ability to attend meetings and seminars.
Abililty to perform all essential functions of the position.
Education
and Experience:
Education: One
(1) year of specialized training beyond the high school
diploma.
Experience: Three
(3) years of progressive/responsible experience in a college
or
university bookstore environment which includes supervision of the overall
operation and/or one year of retail management. Ability to supervise general accounting and clerical/cashier
functions. Knowledge of retail
accounting, pricing methods and computations.
Excellent interpersonal, oral and written skills to effectively
communicate with students, staff, faculty, vendors and the general public in a
courteous and professional manner.

combination of training and experience.
