FUNCTION: Advise
new students, undecided majors, students who are changing their majors and
provide general advising for all students at CCCC. Assist in advising dual credit high school
students, update information on transfer programs, and work with Dual
Admissions/University Bound students and representatives.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Job Functions:
1) Serve
as a resource liaison to both the Recruitment and Programs for New Students and
Transfer Programs departments. Work with
and advise dual credit high school students.
Participate in dual credit programs at high schools, in the community,
and within the college.
2) Continually
interface with the Transfer Programs Department to ensure that each campus has
the most updated information in the Advising Office.
3) Actively
promote the Dual Admissions/University Bound program. Advise students interested in enrolling in
this program.
4) Work closely with high school dual credit, Transfer
Programs, and Dual Admissions/University bound personnel.
5) Responsible for weekly/monthly updates to the Director of Advising
regarding high school dual credit, Transfer Programs, and Dual
Admissions/University Bound initiatives.
6) Assist or advise students regarding program planning, course
selection, schedule changes, transferability, and course withdrawals. Provide leadership in the area of unofficial
degree planning for students and in the evaluation of student's transcripts. Provide support and leadership during
registration for the general student population and for International Students
Office (ISO), as individually assigned.
7) Provide assistance to other academic Advisors in their job
priority areas. Interact and coordinate
with divisions other than assigned division, i.e. Library,
8) Provide
general advising information to international students as requested. May also
provide BCIS information to international students as assigned and perform
other functions including assistance with documentation and applications,
registering and SEVIS data input.
9) Refer students to and accept referrals from other academic
advisors, faculty, administration, and counselors.
10) Assist in developing and implementing new programs for
academic advising including work with programs such as concurrent enrollment,
alternative certification (CCCCD Allen), TAA (Trade Adjustment Act), students,
Networks, Promise, New Student Programs and study skills classes
(intervention.)
11) May provide general
information about current industry* trends/standards to students.
12) May be
required to liaison with Academic Computing Services for maintenance of
computers, printers and programs utilized in advising students.
13) May be responsible for training of part-time and work study
students, in addition to interviewing prospective student employees.
Marginal Job Functions:
May provide advising assistance as directed to students attending
classes at offsite and/or other locations, such as CCCCD Allen..
Travel between campuses to advise students, attend workshops, seminars,
meetings, etc.
Remain calm when faced with emotional or irate individuals.
Train and supervise student assistants as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills and
Abilities:
Skills in academic advising techniques, counseling techniques, and
personnel skills, along with flexibility and resourcefulness.
Knowledge of current developments in related fields of specialization
with the ability to keep up-to-date on changes in policies and procedures to
maintain current working knowledge.
Ability to use good judgment and work effectively under pressure.
Oral and written communication skills to support effective interaction
with students, faculty, staff, administrators and the general public.
Knowledge of time management techniques.
Organization skills to effectively plan work activities, schedules,
priorities and utilization of resources.
Ability to perform assigned responsibilities, duties, and tasks
according to established practices, procedures, techniques and standards with
minimal supervision within the assigned time frame.
Ability to deal in a fair and courteous manner with a variety of
individuals.
Ability to provide feedback, support, and encouragement to students.

Education and Experience:
Education: Bachelor's degree (Master's desired) from a regionally
accredited
institution
in counseling or a related field.
Experience: Two (2) years of experience in student
development/affairs which
involves academic and career
counseling.
OR
Any equivalent combination of training and experience.
Licenses/Certificates:
N/A
Note: Required to work evenings as assigned. Additional hours during peak
periods/registration, may include weekends.
