FUNCTION: Assure
equal access for persons with disabilities to all
educational and vocational programs at Collin County
Community College (CCCC). Identify and provide
reasonable accommodations at CCCC
facilities to ensure
equal educational opportunities
for individuals with
disabilities.
REPORTS TO: Director of ACCESS
SUPERVISES: N/A ___________________________________________________________
MAJOR
RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Job Functions:
1) Individualize
advising for students with disabilities providing academic and goal setting
support.
2) Establish
and maintain appropriate files and documentation on eligible students with
disabilities.
3) Maintain
close and regular contact with these students to ensure appropriate reasonable
accommodations and follow up.
4) Assist
administrators, instructors and counselors in seeking funds for special
programs and adaptive equipment for individuals with disabilities.
5) Develop
and administer disability awareness programs and professional development
activities for faculty and staff at CCCC promoting greater sensitivity toward
disabilities.
6) Assist
in providing support during registration and assessment.
7) Assist
in providing leadership with intake and academic advising for all students.
8) Work
with and make referrals to area social service and support agencies.
9) Work
closely with the Coordinator of Student Support Services in scheduling
note-takers, scribes, readers, tutors, and adaptive equipment needs and in
coordinating appropriate accommodations for students with disabilities.
10) Participate
in evening and weekend advising, as needed.
11) Proctor
and administer tests for students on all campuses needing special testing
arrangements.
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills and
Abilities:
Knowledge
of working with students who have disabilities and how to accommodate them
reasonably.
Knowledge
of current laws and educational implementation in the special needs/education
area, to include ADA.
Ability
to interpret psycho-educational assessments and to recommend appropriate
accommodations.
Knowledge
of interviewing techniques and methods.
Ability
to provide referrals to CCCCD personnel, as well as community, state and
federal agencies.
Interpersonal
skills to work with many college constituencies.
Knowledge
of problem-solving techniques for identifying problems and determining the most
appropriate course of action for their resolution.
Knowledge
of current developments in related fields of specialization with the ability to
keep up-to-date on changes in policies and procedures to maintain current
working knowledge.
Organization
skills to effectively plan work activities, schedules, priorities and
utilization of resources.
Ability
to use good judgment and work effectively under pressure.
Knowledge
of time management techniques.
Skill
to listen effectively and demonstrate understanding.
Knowledge
of CCCCD degree and certificate programs.
Ability
to deal in a fair and courteous manner with a variety of individuals.
Ability
to provide feedback, support and encouragement to students.
Ability
to create an atmosphere of mutual trust.
Ability
to effectively convey ideas to others in a group or one-on-one situation.
Skill
to research information, identify relevant facts and derive at logical

to perform all the essential functions of this job.
Education
and Experience:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Special
Education, Rehabilitation
Counseling, or a related field from a regionally
accredited
institution, indicating a major. Master’s degree preferred.
Experience: Two (2)
years directly related experience working with individuals who have
disabilities.
OR
Any equivalent
combination of training and experience.
Licenses/Certificates: N/A
NOTE: Required to work evenings as assigned. Additional hours during peak periods/registration, may include
weekends.
