FUNCTION: Provide and
maintain a secure and reliable administrative mini-computer
systems
network for the processing of the
district’s mission critical data by performing systems management and systems
security functions. Assists in the
selection of systems software/hardware through participation in development and
evaluation of bid specifications.

MAJOR
RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Job
Functions
1) Administer the
administrative mini-computer systems of
the Districtnetwork. Perform systems management and security
functions.
2) Assists in the
development and implementation of policies and procedures to prohibit
unacceptable use of the district’s administrative systemsnetwork.
1)Responsible securing the
integrity of the information stored on the administrative mini-computer
system.
3) Perform
Schedule preventive maintenance and
work closely with external technical specialists to anticipate and avoid
systems failure.
4) Provides
technical expertise in development of highly technical bid proposals including
specifications and evaluations for systems hardware and software.
5) Use knowledge
and technical expertise in trouble-shooting administrative systems problems in
a Sun Solaris, Linux orand
clustered OpenVMS environment.
6) Participate
in the dDevelopment and maintenance of
procedures related to day-to-day systems administration, systems operations, backup and recovery routines.
7) Perform scheduled and mandatory upgrades of administrative systems application and operating systems software, firmware, hardware and peripherals.
8) Responsible
for thoroughly evaluating the prerequisites, determining and understanding the
impact of applying upgrades to the administrative systems.
9) Review and
ensure successful integration of purchased layered products software in the District’s
administrative mini-computer systemsnetwork.
10) Participate in
the analysis of technological trends and determine the resulting impact on the
district.
Travel
between campuses to attend/participate in various workshops, seminars,
conferences, and/or departmental meetings.
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge,
Skills, & Abilities
Proficient in the use and administration of
Solaris 9i and 10g and, Linux.
Working knowledge ofand OpenVMS 7.1 operating
systems tools and utilities, desireable..
Working
knowledge of SunFire Mid-Range Servers, Sun Storage
Solutions and Tape Library, AlphaServer 4100 and
1200 mini-computers, DNS, Firewalls, TCP/lP
protocol and system security procedures.
Working
knowledge of AlphServer 4100 and 1200 systems desireable.
Working
knowledge of Banner, Appworx,
Luminius
and Toad preferred.
Working
knowledge of ABS and SLS Backup Utility and Watchdog.
Knowledge of project management techniques,
organizational development strategies and techniques.
Knowledge
of hardware bid specification development and criteria needed to
evaluate bid responses.
Skill
to effectively plan work activities, schedules, priorities, and utilization of
resources.
Skill
to listen effectively and demonstrate understanding.
Oral
and/or written communication skills.
Ability

Education and
Experience
Education: Bachelor’s degree
in Computer Science, Computer Information System (CIS), Management Information
System (MIS) or a directly related field from a regionally accredited
institution.
Experience: Three
years of Systems Administration experience in a SunFire
Solaris and, Linux and
OpenVMS Alpha Server environment required. Experience with OpenVMS
systems administration preferred. Proficient
in the use of Solaris 9i or 10 and, Linux and OpenVMS
7.1 or higher required.
Previous experience with SunGardHE BANNER ERP Systems, SunGardHE PLUS
Suite of products desiredand
OpenVMS Internet Product Suite.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with
students, faculty, staff and the general public in a courteous and professional
manner.
OR
Any equivalent related combination of
training and experience.
