FUNCTION:              To perform cashiering functions under the direction of the Accounts Receivable Coordinator/Accountant II - Bursar including receipt and disbursement of various monies.

 

REPORTS TO:        Accounts Receivable Coordinator / Accountant II - Bursar

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Essential Job Functions:

 

1)     Required to work over-time during peak periods and during registration.

 

2)     Responsible for the collection and processing of student tuition, testing fees, loan payments, and division funds

 

3)     Issue receipts indicating appropriate accounts.

 

4)     Balance tuition receipts with deposit records and batch for data input.

 

5)     Process documents of tuition refunds. Reconcile, analyze, and/or verify student accounts and process documents of tuition refunds.

 

6)     Update daily (data entry) and ensure the accuracy of all students' account balances for credit and non credit.

 

7)     Assist in maintenance and reconciliation of records for returned checks, emergency student loans,  deferment plans, and third party billing accounts.  Ensure that all outstanding accounts have the proper hold flags.

 

8)     Provide accurate information to students regarding their account balances and assist students, faculty, staff and the general public in a timely and friendly manner while maintaining required confidentiality.

 

9)     Provide for the safekeeping and accurate accounting of all monies received in the cashiers’ offices and the timely deposit of funds

 

10) Process and/or calculate and distribute checks (financial aid, student loans, refund, reimbursement, payroll)

 

Marginal Job Functions:

 

Travel between campuses as needed to cover shortage, attend workshops, conferences, seminars, meetings, etc.

 

Perform assigned responsibilities, duties, and tasks according to established practices, procedures, techniques, and standards with minimal supervision within the assigned timeframe.

 

Maintain restraint and keep calm when faced with interpersonal and or emotional or angry individuals.

 

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

Skill in using 10 key adding machine by touch.

 

Effective keyboarding skills and knowledge of related software. 

 

Knowledge of cash collection procedures.

 

Knowledge of bookkeeping/accounting procedures.

 

Ability to record and input (data entry) information accurately.

 

Skill in making simple arithmetic calculations.

 

Skill to legibly record financial transactions by hand.

 

Skill in operating required office equipment such as facsimile, photocopier, typewriter, etc.

 

Knowledge of micro-computers.

 

Oral and written skills to convey ideas, facts, and information effectively and accurately.

 

Skill in proofreading data to ensure accuracy.

 

Ability to lift, pull, push, carry objects, money, or reports up to approximately 20 pounds and/or occasionally lift about 30 pounds.

 

Ability to stand, stoop, bend or kneel.

 

Ability to call for assistance in potentially dangerous situations.

 

Knowledge of department and college policies, procedures, and practices with the ability to answer work-related questions or provide assistance to students, staff, faculty, and the general public in a timely and courteous manner.

 

Ability to perform assigned responsibilities, duties, and tasks according to established practices, procedures, techniques, philosophies, and standards with minimal supervision.

 

Ability to fulfill requests or otherwise provide services, accurate information, or assistance in a courteous and timely manner.

 

Ability to shift quickly between several tasks without loss of continuity.

 

Ability to complete work that is precise and includes few or no errors.

 

Ability to identify and use potential sources of data.

 

Ability to make rapid, accurate scanning movements with the eyes.

 

Ability to listen actively and demonstrate understanding, as well as follow written instructions.

 

Ability to demonstrate safe work habits and safe use of equipment.

 

Ability to perform all the essential functions of this job.

 

 

Education and Experience:

 

Education:               High School Diploma or equivalent.

 

Experience:             Two (2) years of experience as a cashier working in a customer

service environment or any directly related experience.  Ability to use ten key adding machine by touch. Effective keyboarding skills and knowledge of related software.  Knowledge of bookkeeping/accounting procedures is required.  Ability to communicate with students, staff, and general public in a courteous and professional manner.

Any equivalent combination of training and experience.
