FUNCTION: Ensure
activity in the District bank
accounts are accurately accounted for on the general ledger, cash receipts
journal and cash disbursements journal, and that reconciliation entries are
completed in a timely manner.
REPORTS TO: Controller

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Job Functions:
1) Prepare
bank reconciliations on all District bank accounts including monitoring
outstanding checks and maintaining a valid outstanding check listing.
2) Compile
and analyze financial information to prepare entries on general ledger
accounts, documenting business transactions.
Review and analyze various accounts on the general ledger and the
subsidiary ledger for accuracy.
3) Assist
with the preparation of audit schedules, financial statements, and statistical
data related to the annual audit and comprehensive annual financial report
(CAFR). Assist with annual budget
development.
4) Prepare
journal vouchers, journal entries, cash receipt and disbursement entries.
5) Review
monthly journal entries and assist in month-end accounting close process. Prepare journal entries to record telephone
and utility allocations to cost centers.
6) Review and
prepare payment requests for the bank service charges and credit card discount
fees. Review monthly account analysis
from the depository bank.
7) Review
Positive Pay bank notification daily and provide information to the bank on regular
and manual checks issued and voided.
8) Reconcile
monthly third party billing payments to payments posted on SIS and the
receivable accounts for third party billing on the general ledger. Responsible for reviewing and approving
third party billing and other check requests prepared by the Bursar's Office.
9) Prepare
the annual unclaimed property report and submit to the State Comptroller.
Marginal Job Functions:
Perform

angry individuals.
Attend
meetings, seminars, and workshops as required.
Serve as
back-up to other staff accountants.
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge
of fund accounting.
Knowledge
of current accounting principles (GASB & FASB).
Knowledge
of financial analysis techniques for assessing the financial condition of the
District.
Knowledge
of reconciliation procedures with the ability to reconcile accounts.
Knowledge
of problem-solving techniques for identifying problems, researching and
determining the most appropriate course of action for their resolution.
Knowledge of effective customer service
techniques.
Knowledge
of time management techniques with the ability to organize, schedule, assign,
delegate, coordinate, and monitor the work to accomplish the most possible in
the time available.
Knowledge
of business English, spelling punctuation, and effective letter writing
practices.
Knowledge
of microcomputers and basic word processing, software and data manipulation
(spreadsheet) applications.
Interpersonal skills for
effective interaction with various levels within the college and the general
public.
Oral and
written communication skills to support effective interaction with various
levels of the District, faculty, staff, and other outside parties.
Skill in
proofreading materials to ensure accuracy.
Skill to
effectively plan work activities, schedules, priorities and utilization of
resources.
Skill to
research information, identify relevant facts and derive logical conclusions.
Ability to
perform assigned responsibilities, duties, and tasks according to established
practices and procedures with minimal supervision.
Ability to
interpret and implement applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
Ability to apply
general accounting principles to analyze financial information and prepare
financial reports.
Ability to

bend, stoop, squat to file or retrieve files (reports).

push, pull, drag, lift, and carry reports and ledgers of up to 20 pounds.
Ability to
perform all essential functions of the position.
Education and Experience:
Education: Bachelors Degree in accounting, with a
minimum of 18 hours of Accounting, from a regionally accredited institution.
Experience: Five (5) years of directly related experience
plus a knowledge of computerized accounting systems. Ability to analyze financial information, prepare financial
reports and reconcile various accounts.
Experience in higher education desired.
Detail-oriented and good organization skills to effectively communicate
with students, staff, faculty, and the general public in a courteous and
professional manner. Fund accounting
and experience directly related to grants and contracts is desired.

combination of training and experience.
